Cut Wire Shots
Cut Wire Shot is cylindrical or spherical in shape. Cut Wire Shot is made from high quality wire which is cut to a length about equal to its diameter. The wire used to produce Cut Wire Shot can be made of Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Zinc, Nickel Alloy, Copper or other metal alloys and even thus named after that such as zinc cut wire shots, copper cut wire shots, aluminum cut wire shots, etc. Cut wire shots size is calculated in mesh or mm. Cut Wire Shot is the abrasive media used for peening, cleaning, tumbling, and finishing. It is widely used in wheel blasting. There are various types of cut wire shots:
- SS Cut wire shots
- Steel Cut Wire Shots
- Zinc Cut Wire Shots
- High Carbon Cut Wire Shots
- Conditioned Cut Wire Shots
- Aluminum Cut Wire Shot
- Copper Cut Wire Shots
- Brass Cut Wire Shots
- Spring Cut Wire Shots
SS Cut Wire Shots
Stainless steel cut-wire shots are used in various numbers of applications where non ferrous components like stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, are to be blasted and ferrous contamination is harmful to the component. To avoid corrosion SS cut wire shots are used. Shots are produced from various grades of stainless steel type 302/304, type 316, and type 430.
Steel Cut Wire Shots
Steel cut wire shot are used in various numbers of applications where non ferrous components like stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, are to be blasted and ferrous contamination is harmful to the component. Steel Cut Wire Shots are made of high quality and even are highly demanded in market. These are used as blasting media in the blasting machines for smoothening or cleaning a blasting surface.
Zinc Cut Wire Shots
Zinc cut wire shots are softer than SS cut wire or cast products. Zinc cut wire shots are available in various sizes. Zinc Cut Wire Shot is produced by cutting zinc wire into pellets, the length is equal to the diameter of the zinc wire. It is used mainly for sand removal, deburring and deflashing of non ferrous components. These wires are also available in a conditioned form which is used as a longer lasting alternative to cast zinc shots. Deburring and deflashing of aluminum and zinc castings and die-castings. Applications of zinc cut wire shots are in removal of sand from sand castings; in removal of parting lines and stains from non ferrous castings and in removal of water wrinkle from aluminum die castings and providing a luster satin type finish. This zinc cut wire shots provides temporary corrosion protection to ferrous parts blasted with them.
High Carbon Cut Wire Shots
High Carbon Cut Wire Shots are produced by cutting wire into lengths equal to the wire diameter. Quality of shots is controlled by chemical and physical properties present in the wire and accurate cutting to lengths. Every shot is 100% solid in nature. These cut wires are available in cylindrical form as well as in a spherical shape in a number of sizes from 0.30 mm to 3.17 mm. High Carbon Cut Wire Shot applications include: Shot peening, blast cleaning, tumbling and finishing. These are generally blackish in color, hard in nature and made from high carbon.
Conditioned Cut Wire Shots
Conditioned Cut Wire Shots are manufactured by conditioning (rounding) as cut wire shot. There are mainly three grades i.e. G1, G2, G3. Conditioned Cut wire shots are 100% solid in nature. These shots are most suitable for Shot peening application. Conditioned cut wire shot gives better life than cast steel shots. These are generally grayish in color, and may be customized in different sizes.
Aluminum Cut Wire Shots
Aluminum Cut wire shots are produced by cutting Aluminum wire into lengths equal to the wire diameter. Aluminum being a soft metal is ideal for blast cleaning and shot peening on Aluminum Castings, Aluminum components. As we know aluminum is a non ferrous metal therefore it is widely used on Stainless Steel Components. Aluminum Cut wires is available as “as-cut” (cylindrical) as well as in a conditioned (spherical) shape. Sizes may differ from 0.60 mm to 3.17 mm.
Copper Cut Wire Shots
Copper cut wire shots are manufactured from copper wire or brass wire, from Cu 58%to99%. It could also be in round balls, mainly classified in three basic grades G1, G2, G3. Application of copper cut wire shots is: it is used for removing oxidation, reducing surface defects, preventing rust before painting of metal surface, precision casting, machinery manufacturing, automobile spare parts, pump valve industry, etc.
Brass Cut Wire Shots
Brass cut wire shot is produced by cutting brass wire into equal lengths of wire diameter. Brass cut wire shots quality is controlled by chemical and physical properties inheriting in the wire and wire lengths. These wires are fine finished, corrosion resistant and highly durable in nature. Cut wire shot applications include: Shot peening, blast cleaning and vibratory finishing. Cut wire shot is available as-cut edges rounded by conditioning, or fully conditioned to spheroids in different number of sizes from 0.60 mm to 3.17 mm.
Spring Cut Wire Shots
Steel Cut Wire shots are made using finest quality Spring Steel Wire with high content of carbon. The quality is assured because the wire from which it has been produced is heat treated and cold drawn to achieve hardness & homogeneity in each and every spring cut wire shots. This is achieved together with balanced chemical properties & complete solidity of every piece, insuring that Cut Wire Shot will not fracture, break or powder while in use. These are used for cleaning, deburring, smoothening, shot peening application. The life of Spring Cut Wire Shots is double than the life of Steel Shots / Grits.
Advantages of cut wire shot are as follows:
- Most economical
- lowest consumption
- No dust formation
- Faster cleaning
- Environmental friendly
- Uniform hardness
- Stabilized grain size
- Increased fatigue life of blasted parts
Applications of cut wire shot are as follows:
- Surface finishing, smoothening
- Shot peening
- Shot blasting
- Grit removal
- Rust removal
- Blast cleaning
